Open letter to 33 South

3Being with you was a blast. Thank you!

Visiting Cape Town is hardly a suffering, but you were a joy beyond anything else your amazing city had on offer.

Thank you for celebrating Jesus with us. He truly is the Beginning, End, and All Things in between, and your obvious delight in the Good News of the Gospel was nurture to our souls.

Thank you for embracing, edifying and encouraging us. From discreet envelopes to heartfelt hugs, again and again we got the message – we’re loved and appreciated. It means a great deal, be it from friends of long standing, or from brand new acquaintances who are set to become friends of long standing in time. We have carried home with us a wonderful sense of having bonded with you – a bunch of God’s kids with whom we really get along. Having been with you, we are blessed and refreshed, and we trust that you are too.

It’s also a giant thank you for further provoking us in our pursuit of a pattern of life that is in and for the Gospel, rather than delineated and defined by the demands and activities of the church. We love the local church and could not imagine a life lived outside of it, but steadfastly refuse to allow it to become our master. Only Jesus may ever hold that place in our lives. Having reveled in your adventurous spirit and undemanding newness, we’ve returned home having resolved all the more to continue to give our lives to Christianity, not church-ianity, despite the considerable challenges this brings.

1Thank you too for befriending and blessing Andy. He loves Cape Town and he loves you, and his life is so much richer thanks to your warmth, patience, generosity and openhearted affection. He is a special young man, but it requires special people and special moments for that to be seen. His memory banks are full of new entries. Thank you for making them happen.

Our hope is that you’ll think as fondly of us as we do of you, and that in our Gracious Lord you will experience exceedingly, abundantly above your most outrageous prayer and wildest dream.

Much love,

Gavin, Estelle, Andy, and Highway

Thank you technology (book giveaway)

Di Wilson - NC Bible hi-resToday it’s a great big thank you to Technology. Thank you for enabling a book giveaway absolutely free.

Putting pen to paper to capture the Gospel in it’s rich, multi-faceted beauty is something I’ve always known that I would do. (I bought my first small typewriter when still at school, and edited the school newspaper in my final year). Had this been a few years ago, the writing would’ve been the easy part. Funding the printing and distribution of the book would’ve been the challenge.

How times have changed. E-publications are by norm less expensive than hard copies, but with a bit of ingenuity it is possible to offer e-publications of the highest quality absolutely free, and to do so through the finest distribution channels available.

Over the longer term the books that I’m writing will be for sale, albeit at relatively nominal prices. But from time to time, like now, I’ll have the privilege of offering one or another of them completely free. Doing so gives me the greatest joy imaginable. Please download your copy of “How To Read The Bible & Not Get Confused”, but more than that, share the links to Amazon and Smashwords with friends, so that they can get a copy too. (Use the share button below to share using just about any electronic means imaginable, including e-mail).

Please help me get the word out! We love the Gospel, and thanks to technology, we can put it in the hands of others absolutely free, and with the greatest of ease.

Welcome to SoMuchGoodNews!

This is it. SoMuchGoodNews is here!

It was always going to be something of a soft start. We’ve been fiddling around for weeks getting our heads around the technical side of things and learning to use social media and e-publishing platforms. That kind of thing continues in the background as we work towards podcasting, vlogging (video blogging) and the like, but today we celebrate what is already available.

Confidently I can say a whole bunch of things that I couldn’t say a few weeks ago. “Follow me on Twitter @SoMuchGoodNews“, “download a free copy of “Welcome Home” (a short story) from Smashwords or Barnes&Noble or Kobo”, “subscribe to my blog” or “check out my NOT CONFUSED series; the first book is on pre-pub on Smashwords and Amazon, with 1 November the release date”. And as I say them, they’re not only true, but I know what they mean.

But here’s the thing. I couldn’t possibly have gotten here on my own. There’s the magnificence of knowing that the Holy Spirit is birthing something. There’s the support of family and friends who do the job of a fan club in the background. It’s appreciated, and humbling. (Today is my 27th anniversary and Estelle is still the best plus some). Then there’s Kandas Ackhurst, who has plugged away in the background with extraordinary tenacity and Scott and Di Wilson who have done some high-impact playing of late. And Ros Otte, who did some important background stuff. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you!

For now we celebrate the launch of a website. How much more we shall celebrate when we receive report of it’s fruit! Jesus is the best thing that has ever happend to me. May SoMuchGoodNews reveal Him in fresh ways to many.
